What is the difference between Protestant and Catholic Bibles?
The Roman Catholic and Orthodox Churches did not follow the Protestant revisions of the Bible and they continue to base their Old Testament on the Septuagint. The result is that these versions of the the Bible have more Old Testament books than most Protestant versions. The Catholic version of the Old Testament contains 46 books. The Protestant version of the Old Testament contains 39 books. Notes were added to Catholic Bibles as those of the Geneva Bible. The number of books contained in the New Testament are identical, numbering 27.

What is the difference between Protestant and Catholic Bibles? The Septuagint
The Septuagint is the translation of the Jewish Bible into the Greek dating from between 250 and 100 BC . The word is an abbreviation of interpretatio septuaginta virorum or: translation by seventy men. This refers to the legend that 70 translators working independently from each other on the same text came to a synonymous result. The Septuagint comprises the deuterocanonical scriptures, called "The Apocrypha" by some people.. Deuterocanonical books is a term used since the 16th century in the Catholic Church to describe certain books and passages of the Christian Old Testament that are not part of the Hebrew Bible.

Catholic Bible Translations - The New Testament
The Protestant, Catholic and Orthodox New Testaments are identical, all containing 27 books.

Catholic Bible Translations - The Old Testament
Bible translations developed for Catholic use are complete Bibles. This means that they contain the entire canonical text identified by Pope Damasus and the Synod of Rome (382) and the local Councils of Hippo (393) and Carthage (397), contained in St. Jerome's Latin Vulgate translation (420), and decreed infallibly by the Ecumenical Council of Trent (1570). The Catholic version of the Old Testament contains 46 books. The Protestant version of the Old Testament contains 39 books. These 7 books, and parts of 2 others, are called Deuterocanonical by Catholics (2nd canon) and Apocrypha (false writings) by Protestants, who dropped them at the time of the Reformation. The Deuterocanonical texts are Tobias (Tobit), Judith, Baruch, Ecclesiasticus (Sirach), Wisdom, First and Second Maccabees and parts of Esther and Daniel.

Catholic Bible - The History of the Douay-Rheims Version of the Bible
The Online Douay-Rheims Version - The Douay-Rheims Version of the Catholic Bible pre-dates the King James Version (1611). The Douay-Rheims Version of the Catholic Bible was translated from the Latin Vulgate, the Church's official Scripture text, by English Catholics in exile on the continent. The New Testament was completed and published in 1582 when the English College (the seminary for English Catholics) was located at Rheims. Notes were added as those of the Geneva Bible. The Old Testament was completed and published in 1610 when the College was located at Douay. Hence the New and Testament of the Catholic Bible is given the name Douay Rheims.
